Kitchener Stitch Tutorial

With sts divided evenly on two needles (for socks this would be sts from the top of the foot on one needle and sts from the bottom of the foot on the other) hold them parallel to each other. The working yarn should be attached on right edge of the back needle. Using a length of this yarn, approximately four times the circumference of one end of the project, thread this yarn through a tapestry needle. Use this yarn for grafting.

Step 1. Insert tapestry needle and pull yarn through the first st on the front needle as if to knit and slip the st off the needle. Insert tapestry needle and pull yarn through the next st on the front needle as if to purl and leave it on the needle.

Step 2. Insert tapestry needle and pull yarn through the first st on the back needle as if to purl and slip the st off the needle. Insert the tapestry needle and pull yarn through the next st on the back needle as if to knit and leave it on the needle.

Repeat steps 1 – 2 until there is 1 st left on each needle. Insert the tapestry needle and pull yarn through the st on the front needle as if to knit and slip it off the needle. Insert tapestry needle and pull yarn through the st on the back needle as if to purl and slip it off the needle.
