Lotion Bars
I prefer a natural approach to skincare and in the products I use at home. To keep my hands and cuticles in tip-top shape, I like to make my own lotion bars. They are simple to make, and even with my almost constant hand washing (a mom’s life) my hands stay moisturized and my nails healthy.
2 tablespoons of Mango Butter or Cocoa Butter
2 tablespoons of Beeswax (I use pellets)
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
40-60 drops of essential oil (optional) (works best with Mango Butter)
In a double-boiler, I melt my butter, beeswax and coconut oil together. Remove from heat. Once it begins to cool, I add my essential oils, stir and pour into silcone molds to cool. Once they are solid, they can be put into tins or small jars. I rub one in my hand as often as I can, especially after washing my hands. Once I stop rubbing it stops feeling greasy, and I can sit down to knit with moisturized hands.
The ingredients are not cheap, but I can make lotion bars for years with these basic ingredients.
