Knitting wins and losses

First, the wins…

I can’t remember if I’ve shared this first bobbin that was finished in 4 or 5 days. This is the bobbin of narrow strips.

The light was good, so I shot this mid-spin of the second bobbin. This one has the wider strips of fiber.

Here are the two completed bobbins. The one with the narrow strips of fiber is on the left, and the one with wider strips of fiber is on the right.

I can’t wait to ply these, and I’m hoping they turn out well. I think my spinning improved a bit this time. Making a point to spin everyday really seemed to be helpful. I did miss two days in a row while spinning the second bobbin, and it did take me a bit longer to get into a rhythm.

I cast on the Tettegouche hat from Kate Davies’ book, Milarrochy Heids. I ripped out the beginning of this hat a few frustrating times. What I found I liked better was a tubular cast on, and I also knit an extra round after the cast on round in the first color. Otherwise, the contrast color kept showing along the edge.

I’m using the kit for the hat from Kate Davies. The Milarrochy Tweed is a beautiful, grippy, thick and thin yarn. It produces beautiful colorwork. This kit has been in my stash far too long, and I’m so happy to finally be knitting it. I’ve seen this pattern in handspun, and those are also very gorgeous hats.

Remember this yarn? I designed a sock for my husband using one of these. It knit up so beautifully. As I knit I kept thinking it looked small. But, it couldn’t be, I reasoned. It would block right out.

It didn’t. I had knit an entire giant man’s sock with the wrong needles. We women should really trust our instincts more.

I’m going to start the next sock with hopefully the right needles this time before I rip out the first one. I will need to rip it, because I don’t have enough yarn for a pair otherwise.

So, a week of wins and losses in my knitting. With knitting even the losses are redeemable. I ripped out the hat until I liked it, and I will rip out the small sock and reknit it in the proper size.

Thinking of redeeming and restoring…

“And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.” Isaiah 58:12

“I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you.” Isaiah 44:22

Isn’t that wonderful!
