Lissuin was a fragrant flower of Tol Eressea. It was brought by the Elves to Numenor. Its fragrance was said to bring a heart to ease.

Their ship was laden with flowers for the adornment of the feast, so that all that sat there, when evening was come, were crowned with elanor and sweet lissuin whose fragrance brings heart’s ease. Unfinished Tales by J.R.R. Tolkein.

It is difficult to think of the forest and not think of the novels by Tolkien where flora and fauna are so intertwined with the characters and places described. The description of a sweet flower’s fragrance being able to bring a heart to ease is a very appealing one, considering the uncertain times in which we are living.

The Lissuin Socks are worked top-down. The instructions are both written and charted. The cuff is a simple 1x1 rib. The socks feature an interesting combination of lace and texture below the cuff with eyelets and bobbles worked around the leg. The body of the sock is in stocking stitch. The heel is a traditional heel-flap and gusset. And the socks are completed with a wedge toe.
