Shoulder basket with two leather-wrapped handles. It would be fantastic for a knit night or knitting retreat, picnic, farmer’s market, beach trip, or like me, as an everyday bag! There is so much room in this basket for large projects, blankets, snacks, you name it!
Baskets are shipped flat. Full and easy instructions are included for soaking and shaping the basket. This typically takes only 1 - 2 minutes.
Not intended for small children.
Bolgatanga is the largest town in the Upper East region of Ghana, 20 miles from the border with Burkina Faso and near the southern edge of the Sahara Desert. Although the soil is fertile, the sun blazes all through the dry season, making agriculture very difficult. These market baskets provide much needed funds for thousands of families in the region, and today a large percentage of the villagers weave these baskets as their main income. By purchasing a basket here you are greatly helping the weavers in Africa.
You can feel good using these baskets for your knitting projects or around your home. They are Fair Trade and handmade by artisans, mostly women, to support their families using locally grown straw.
