December 2020 Projects & finishes

I’m hoping to journal my wips and finishes here in my journal. I think it will be handy to have access to my project notes in this form.

As well as publishing Nordic Socks, I worked on a number of projects and had a few finishes in December.

The first was this cardigan for my husband. I designed and knit it for him. It was the first raglan I have designed; it’s not perfect but boy, does he wear it well!!! ❤️

I took a lot of measurements of him and my gauge. I added ease to his measurements, and I used Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Percentage System from The Opinionated Knitter to help me determine how many stitches to cast on. Her system worked great, but in hindsight, I should have arranged my cast on stitches to have more of them on the front, but it all worked out.

I wasn’t sure if I had enough buttons, but I did. These are vintage leather buttons, and I love them more than the newly made ones I ordered just in case. The yarn is Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport in Cobblestone Heather knit on 3.75 mm needles. I finished this cardigan on Christmas Day. 🌲

Chloe kept a careful eye on my stitches.

I used Suzanne Bryant’s tutorial for a horizontal buttonhole. It is my favorite method for a tidy and sturdy buttonhole. I also used a Russian bind off on the collar, so it wouldn’t pull up.

This is the Knitting Season Hat by Kate Davies. I used her kit for this pattern using her Milarrochy Tweed. I used needles in sizes 3.25 mm and 3.50 mm. This is such a beautiful design that I have wanted to knit for ages, so it was great to take the time after Christmas to finish it.

I started spinning this braid of Clockwork from Wound Up Fiber Arts in her Super Sock base. It is wonderful fiber to spin. I divided this braid in half, then split each half into an uneven number of bundles. This is how Trisha spins for her gorgeous socks, so I’m following her method and hoping mine come close to hers.

I also finished knitting a sample (that I can’t show yet) for an upcoming pattern that will be published in a magazine in the spring. That is quite exciting! And I had so much fun knitting along with incredible test knitters.
